WHAT I SEEK: My current career objective: I am seeking a senior Product Development/Product Management or Operations role with 1) a Chicago start-up or 2) a start-up division within another entrepreneurial company in Chicago.
My definition of a start-up is a for-profit business entity that: 1) Did not exist 5 years ago, 2) Has less than 250 employees, contractors, and partners (maybe a lot less), and 3) Is in early phases of iterating their products to match market opportunities (yes, this is imprecise; it is one of those things that I will know it when I see it).
Also, this company/company division should be one in which: 1) the company has achieved either a) actual revenue and/or b) At least Series A funding, 2) Products/services are delivered online (via the Web and/or on a mobile device), and 3) revenue sources are not limited to online advertising.
If there is a mobile dimension to their business, then I am even more intrigued.
By “entrepreneurial company”, I mean a company that actively changes by empowering its employees to: 1) take calculated risks to innovate, 2) fail early and small 3. Learn often and large 4. Press forward 5) Rinse and repeat
Additional ideal qualities of the opportunity: 1) Compensation is a combination of salary and equity 2) Allows for occasional remote/out of office work
WHY ME? If you are going to put your business relationships on the line to recommend/connect me, you need to know enough about me to make a connection with confidence. Here's a taste (but willing to provide much more): 1) Having co-founded a start-up during the dot com era, I have learned a lot about what is required for a start-up to succeed 2) If told to get from Point A to Point B, I always figure out how to get there 3) I excel at solving problems that have no apparent solution and no precedent to guide one toward success
